For years I designed and built specialised vehicles with my own hands. Today I work the way an architect does — independent of any one builder. I design your solution, write the specification, select the right conversion partner for the job, and supervise the build through to handover. You get a vehicle built to spec, on budget, by the best workshop for that particular job — with someone on your side of the table who knows every shortcut a builder might try, because I used to be one.

6x6 B6 Armoured Expedition Motorhome

Private client, Africa · 2023

A custom built Luxury expedition vehicle built to B6 ballistic protection: an armoured habitation module with super-yacht like interior including saloon, galley, master cabin with separate shower and toilet; full Victron off-grid power with silent diesel backup generator, and luxury finishes throughout. Armouring, off-grid engineering, luxury interior and international shipping — all held together under a single specification, then shrink-wrapped and shipped to the interior of the Congo.

Fire Incident Command Unit

Cape Winelands District Municipality · 2024

A coach-chassis mobile incident command centre for forward operational control during major fire and rescue incidents. A ten-seat briefing room with interactive display, a dedicated radio operator station, and triple-redundant power — shore, diesel generator and an industry leading Victron and LifePO4 power system guarantees uptime through extended deployments in remote areas.

Mobile Fuel Testing Laboratory

Energy Regulation Board, Zambia · 2025

A regulator-grade petroleum-testing laboratory on an Isuzu N-series chassis, taking compliance testing to the fuel rather than the other way round. Three flash-point analysers, a fume hood for safely decanting fuels, dual-source power, stain and chemical resistant countertops and high brightness laboratory lighting, and chain-of-custody CCTV — a cross-border government delivery to peer-institution standards.

Mobile VMMC Clinic — Full Refurbishment

PSI South Africa · New Start · 2021

A coach-based mobile clinic stripped and rebuilt to current clinical standards for PSI's voluntary medical male circumcision programme. Four procedure bays in series — each with electrically adjustable beds, procedure light, hands-free sink, suction and electrosurgery — with full infection-control finishes and patient-privacy curtaining. A high-throughput clinical asset reset at a fraction of new-build cost.

Mobile Drone Command Unit

City of Cape Town — EPIC, Fire & Rescue · 2024

A Toyota HiAce converted into a multi-position UAS operations base for the City's EPIC team. A primary pilot workstation with curved ultrawide display, secondary operator desks, a broadcast-grade rear screen, and silent off-grid endurance from a Victron MultiPlus-II inverter and 24 V lithium bank — putting drone capability at the incident edge.

9 Mobile units converted and delivered in 12 weeks for SHOUT-IT-NOW's youth-focused HIV testing and counselling outreach. 3 Private consultation spaces; toilet; kitchenette and climate control throughout; deployable access steps and side storage hatches, and a full-vehicle livery that turns every deployment into a visible, welcoming health campaign in the communities it serves.

I've spent my career on both sides of the specialised vehicle equation — first as an independent specifications consultant on donor- and university-funded vehicle programmes, then as the founder and hands-on builder behind Gryphon Mobility Works' conversion workshop.

That double perspective is rare, and it's the whole point. When I write a specification, I know exactly how a workshop will interpret it. When I inspect a build, I know which corners get cut and where to look for them. When I compare bids, I know what the numbers should be — because I've costed these builds from the floor up.

Today I work exclusively on the client's side of the table: designing solutions, writing specifications, running procurement and supervising builds for government, health, energy and private clients across Southern Africa and beyond.
